American Hip Hop Music Collective Remarkable Current Accepts Invitations To Tour The Countries of

Algeria & Tunisia As Cultural Ambassadors

Remarkable Current’s world renowned Hip Hop Ambassador Program has been called on once again to use their music in a campaign focused on building bridges and connecting with the people of North Africa in a way that only RC’s collective of musicians can.  Join them as they ride the wave of the Arab Spring into the summer!

First stop: Algeria! 
Remarkable Current is honored to represent the United States at the “Tlemcen 2011, Capital of Islamic Heritage Festival.”  The Algerian Ministry of Culture is hosting a historic international gathering of artists that started on April 16 and will last through out the year.  The festival will include delegations representing Muslim communities throughout the diaspora who will be participating in this incredible event:  http://www.tlemcen2011.org

Second stop: Tunisia! 

The democratic awakening sweeping North Africa was born in Tunisia. The self-immolation of Mohamed Bouazizi, a marginalized, unemployed, university graduate sparked cascading protests that led the 23-year president to flee the country on January 14^th. That single act of protest inspired the masses in Egypt, Syria, Bahrain, Yemen & Libya in the weeks and months that have followed to take to the streets and demand a change in their countries.

Hip hop and rap played a large part in the Tunisian revolution as rap songs decrying the corruption of the regime became the people’s unofficial anthems.  We’ve been told that the timing and atmosphere here are historic and are perfectly tailored for a visit from Remarkable Current. Tunisia’s first ever, free and fair democratic election is approaching in July. RC’s tour of Tunisia will be partnered with local Tunisian rappers to Rock the Tunisian Vote!

Remarkable Current:  is a record label & worldwide artist collective consisting of musicians, writers, poets and producers who share the same goal: uplifting humanity through music!  Anas Canon is artistic director, executive producer and DJ for the label, which he founded in 2001.  The collective has toured the United States and abroad (Egypt, Turkey, Indonesia, Morocco, Jerusalem, Tanzania/Zanzibar) to met this goal and in the process, has set the standard for contemporary, independent music.    

Hip Hop Ambassadors: Today, hip hop music combines the legacy of jazz & blues with the language of today’s youth.  Just as Dizzy Gillespie and Louis Armstrong were among the "Jazz Ambassadors" of the 20th Century, Remarkable Current’s artists are the "Hip Hop Ambassadors" of the 21st Century, with the mission to build understanding and awareness of America's diversity through musical friendships and collaborations abroad.  These world wide connections are more important and relevant today then ever before, they are the tools that will lead us to a more fruitful conversation and a more peaceful tomorrow.
