Creme De La Ultra: Mark Ultra musings . . .

HOOD-winked & Bam-BOOZE-led?

Dear Reader,
This is NOT a rambling glorification of the "Golden Era" of Hip Hop . . . thousands of those already exist.  This is a motion detector and a burglar alarm going off into the night . . . problem is, nobody's home to stop it.  Too abstract? Let me explain . . . in the past, what did your favorite rap/alternative  albums all have in common? With the exception of LL CooL J and say, Billy Idol, ALL the albums were by GROUPS . . . there weren't many solo artists.  And what were the major labels famous for in those days when dealing with "groups?"  They were famous for trying to break them up.  How? By tempting the lead singer or star player into going solo for more fame & riches.
Now, in today's market, if I ask you to name your favorite rap, rock, or alternative songs (or just the ones you know) you would most likely name SOLO artists . . . so is that natural, or has the progress of our musical craft been altered?  Have we been commercially tampered with?  YES.  So what? That's just the beginning . . .
